[:en]FMS are proud to announces that we can announces that GS marine and Strandfaraskip Landsins have signed the final building contract for the Building number. 49 – to build a new 28 meter long carbon fiber catamaran.
This boat has been developed i close cooperation between GS Marine, Strandfaraskip Landsins & Faroe Maritime Services.
This boat can be a lot more the just a ferry boat, and it\’s not a regular catamaran.
– We deliver a complete transport system in practice to gether with the boat.
Lessons learned from offshore wind.
The catamaran is specially built to transport tourists and other travelers to islands and other outposts in the Faroe Islands.
To date, this has been difficult due to roof sea and poor landing gear, partly with steep cliffs.
But we claims to have solved this problem by building the catamaran so that it can automatically attach to the bow of a custom-built steel module-based quay system.
\”The offshore wind industry has such solutions, but this has not been used before between a fixed onshore and a boat.
\”The key is that this is cheap to produce, and can be set up in most cities and on re-moat places for tourists.The catamaran is hosted in the bow of the quay system, so that only the stern will move in the waves.- The system will work well in waves up to 1.5 meters.The first catamaran of the new type will be able to take 97 passengers and three cars.
Initially, the catamaran will be used for the ever-increasing tourist traffic on the archipelago, but will also serve as a reserve solution for the ordinary ferries for Strandfaraskip Landsins.
Catamarans has a battery hybrid system.
– He should be able to sail for about 1.5 -2 hours on battery, so that it will be a completely emission-free and quiet trip to bird mountain and nature reserve of the Faroe Island.
Delivery of this new catamaran will be on May 1 2020.
